What’s it about?
Sunday August 13th, 1961:
In the early morning of that fateful day, the pavement in the middle of a street in Berlin was torn up. West Berliners were stunned to find themselves on one side of the border with East Berliners on the other side. The entire city was paralyzed in shock. Many citizens took cameras from their homes and recorded the events as they unfolded.

,,Zug in die Freiheit

German w/English subtitles; 90 min.

Saturday, November 22, 2014, 1pm

Where: Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta Auditorium

What’s it about?
Prague 1989, September 30th:
The West German Embassy in Prague suddenly becomes the center of world politics. For weeks, refugees from East Germany have been streaming onto the premises of the Palais Lobkwitz and have camped out in the surrounding streets. Wrapped in blankets and living in tents, men and women, young and old and whole families are waiting for the politicians to act. A few belongings, memories of their past and dreams of a better life in the West is all they bring along.

And these aren’t the only events we’re holding to commemorate the falling of the wall, we’ll also have a reception and eyewitness account of life in both Germanies from author Thomas Raufeisen. Stay tuned for a blog post all about it next week!

So come along and spend your lunchtime at the Goethe!

We look forward to seeing you there!
