DONATE: Georgia Gives Day 2015
Once a year, the state of Georgia comes together to support and celebrate the work done by local nonprofit organizations. That’s right people, Georgia Gives Day is when we want you to support your friends here at the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta! It’s a day when we can realize how big of an impact the nonprofit world has on our community.
Right now, we’re commemorating 25 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall, a monumental day in history that led to the reunification of Germany.
Erected on August 13, 1961 by the communist regime in East Germany, the Wall divided Berlin for 28 years. It cut right through the heart of the city, amputating vital traffic links and separating families and friends. On November 9, 1989, the world watched in amazement as jubilant crowds gathered on both sides of the Berlin Wall around midnight to celebrate the opening of the border crossings between the eastern and western parts of the city. A peaceful revolution in East Germany had finally cracked this grim symbol of Cold War and political oppression. It signaled the beginning of the end of Germany’s postwar division and national unity came less than a year later on October 3, 1990.
The fall of the wall helped shape Germany into the country it is today.
So, we’re asking you to donate $25 on Georgia Gives Day, $1 for every year since the fall of the Wall. If you want to know more about how your cash will help us, check out our previous blog post by clicking here.
As you know, we can’t survive without your help and support. We are so very grateful to all our members, supporters and friends who help us to be who we are today, we wouldn’t be able to teach language classes, stage so many fantastic events and be a big part of Atlanta’s cultural hub.
This year, we’re hoping to raise $5,000 through Georgia Gives Day, this will beat last year’s amount and help us to do so much within the community.
