The 17th Annual European Wine Tasting
The first Friday in November sees the same thing happening every year here at the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta when we take you on a tour of some of Europe’s finest vineyards at our annual wine tasting event. This year was our 17th year of hosting it along with our friends at the Alliance Française, the Consulate General of Switzerland, the Consulate General of Greece and the Honorary Consulate General of Hungary and once again it was a great success! Around 150 people came to sample wines from France, Germany, Greece, Switzerland and Hungary that were perfectly paired with several different food samples. Mark your calendars for next year when it’s all happening again – Friday, November 4, 2016!

Some networking followed at a small reception.
Georgia Gives Day 2015
Thursday, November 12, 2015 saw the state of Georgia come together for Georgia Gives Day. It’s a day dedicated to supporting local nonprofit organizations like ourselves and the impact they have on the community. To commemorate 25 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall, we asked you to donate $25.00 for $25 years with the hope of smashing last year’s total raised and hitting a target of $5,000. If you didn’t manage to donate on November 12, don’t worry, donations can still be made! We haven’t hit that target yet and your donation will make all the difference! Click the button below to donate – it will be greatly appreciated!
Bismarck: Man, Might, Myth Exhibition Roadshow and Opening
This was one of the highlights of our fall program – the launch of our Bismarck ehibition to celebrate the 200th birthday of the ‘Iron Chancellor.’ Bismarck: Man, Might, Myth started with a roadshow that took the exhibition to both North and South Carolina before opening here at the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta.
Bismarck: Man, Might, Myth in North Carolina
The first stop on the Bismarck: Man, Might, Myth was Davidson College in North Carolina. Here, over 80 students and guests came to listen to our guest speaker, Prof. Dr. Jonathan Steinberg, author of ‘Bismark: A Life’ before taking a look around the exhibition.
Bismarck: Man, Might, Myth in South Carolina
The next stop on the Bismarck roadshow was the University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg. This time over 50 people came to listen to Prof. Dr. Steinberg speak and take a look at the exhibition. Another successful day on the roadtrip!
Bismarck: Man, Might, Myth in Atlanta
Finally, the exhibition made it’s way back to Atlanta where it has it’s official opening here at the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta. On Friday, November 13, 2015, over 100 people made their way into our auditorium to listen to Prof. Dr. Jonathan Steinberg’s presentation and make their way around the exhibition while enjoying a wine and cheese reception. Another great night was had by all. If you didn’t manage to make it to the exhibition opening, don’t worry, it will be on display here at the Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta until mid-January so plenty of time for you to stop by and take a look!
Workshop: How to apply for jobs in Germany
November also saw the return of our workshop to help you to find a job in Germany. If your dream has always been to live and work in German then this is definitely for you! Our last program was such a great success, one of the participants is living and working in Germany right now! The workshop helps participants with everything from the Lebenslauf through to the tricky questions you’ll be asked in an interview. If you’re interested in participating in one of these workshops, please contact Martina Kraus at email@example.com.

Big German Career Day – Mit Deutsch Karriere machen!
Our Big German Career Days – Mit Deutch Karriere machen continued in November. During the course of the month we reached out to over 230 students, talking to them about how learning German can help them in their future careers and how they’re living in a prime location for German companies. We went to a number of different schools – Parkview High School where we were joined by John Valentine from the Georgia Department of Education, Woodward Academy, Kell High School where Jorit Kraus from ZF Industries and Chamblee Charter High School where we were joined by Nikki Kiefer and Jonathan Snyder from Mercedes-Benz who all spoke about how having an employee with German language skills helps in their workplace.
40 Years of Goethe in Atlanta
On top of all that and our regular programming like our language courses and Bundesliga, we’ve been putting our heads together to start planning for 2016 when we celebrate our 40th anniversary. Mark your diaries people because big plans are ahead including a gala to celebrate Goethe’s birthday! This month we’ve been looking at possible locations – we still have a few more to see but we think we’ve found something pretty spectacular! We’ll keep you posted on all our new developments – just watch this space!
Now though, things are calming down for the Holiday season! Make sure you stop by for our Holiday Happy Hour next week and enjoy a glass of glühwein and some Christmas treats with us as we celebrate 2015’s successes and look ahead to what 2016 has in store!
